Halifax, NS, Canada -- The Modern Grass, one of the most promising young groups of musicians to come out of the maritimes, launches a two-month stretch of dates from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Whitehorse, Yukon and everywhere in between. Halifax string band The Modern Grass embarks on a nationwide tour following a warm-up tour of Newfoundland. The dates are in conjunction with MG Music's latest release, High on the Mountain.
Recorded in mid-March at CBC’s Studio H in Halifax with acclaimed producer Karl Falkenham, High on the Mountain presents an impressive array of acoustically inspired folk, bluegrass, blues, jazz, and classical music.
The Quintet pays tribute to a number of musical traditions, but leaves plenty of room for innovation and improvisation. Complex arrangements and harmonies translate seamlessly, and Terrell's down home songs and lyrics are a sharp and comforting contrast to the tasteful, yet avante garde musicianship.
The band will kick off their tour by joining award winning newfounlander, singer-songwriter, Matthew Hornell on a two-week tour of his homeland. The band will return to Halifax for a few days of rehearsal before flying to the Yukon to perform at the Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival.
