ICMC 2012 to Czech Out International Bluegrass Music

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Druha TravaNashville, TN -- The International Country Music Conference (ICMC) is coming down the home stretch for 2012. The Saturday, 26 May luncheon in The Frist Lecture Hall will not only feature more good food, assorted door prizes from our generous publishers, but also a fascinating illustrated talk illustrating aspects of the international dimensions of Bluegrass. Our new BFF Lee Bidgood of East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee will be discussing "Translating and Documenting Czech Bluegrass." No doubt we will learn about a complex process as well as substance regarding groups such as Druha Trava--and maybe a touch connecting them to President Obama's visit to the Czech Republic.

You will note from the diversity of the program that presentations run the gamut from contemporary to historical and include varied topics, issues, and genres. The ICMC 2012 program is now on the ICMC web site (www.InternationalCountryMusic.org). The Charlie Lamb Excellence in Country Music Journalism Awards honorees and the Belmont Awards honorees will be posted shortly.

The $125 (US) registration fee is a bargain given the view from the commons and balcony of The Frist Lecture Hall of the Gordon E. Inman Center at Belmont University and the food provided at the breakfasts, luncheons, breaks, and socials. You may use the PDF on the ICMC web site (www.internationalcountrymusic.org) to register. Please send your ICMC registration no later than Friday, 18 May 2012.

The Holiday Inn Vanderbilt will be the official ICMC hotel. A block of rooms has been set aside at the attractive rate of $104 with access to the Holiday Inn shuttle as well as opportunities for socializing and riding to and from Belmont with fellow ICMC attendees. Currently, the block is sold out. You may call for reservations at 1.877.327.4707. Please identify that you are with The International Country Music Conference. Ask if you could receive a discounted rate anyway such as the $107 state rate. If not, please contact Monique Dorival at 615-321-8252 Mon-Fri 8:00-5:00pm and she may be able to assist you.

We are sorry that Belmont University dorms will not be available as a low cost option for ICMC 2012 since Belmont has begun a full MayMester.

Nate Gibson will be the ICMC 2012 Picking Coordinator. Nate's organization and great musical skill and presence added a lot to ICMC 2011! Please contact Nate (nathandgibson@gmail.com) to be included in his distribution list for picking updates.
